“How do I stop smoking?” For millions of people, it’s a question that is literally a matter of life and death. Although in their youth, people want to smoke, most people, as they get older, want to stop. Yet they feel that they can’t. For them, the question, “How do I stop smoking?” is a desperate cry for rescue from an island that they can’t seem to escape. So what is the secret? The magic key?

According to more and more research, the answer is to stop planning on it and just do it. In fact, studies have shown that if you make a snap decision to stop smoking, you’re two or three times more likely to kick the habit than if you plan out the event ahead of time.

Some smokers have a desire to stop, but they can’t get motivated. Others have asked themselves, “How do I stop smoking?” and they try some method – and fail. One doctor, Robert West at University College London, says the secret is to let your motivation build. Make yourself think, as often as possible, about the health effects on your kids, or getting cancer, or the money you’re spending. Then one day, when you feel inside of you that there’s a trigger to give up the cigarettes, then just do it.

Dr. West’s research was based on interviews conducted with 1,900 British smokers and ex-smokers. He discovered that those who did not plan out the “how” involved in stopping smoking but just acted on an impulse succeeded than those who planned it out prior to the event.

So have you been asking yourself that question, “How do I stop smoking?” There are plenty of people world over who smoke, and most don’t like it. Yet they continue. They continue despite the fact that stopping smoking extends their life expectancy by as much as ten years.

If you’re sick of the smoking habit, you have to walk a fine line. Don’t plan out how to stop, but instead, focus on triggers that make people want to stop. Mediate often on how tired cigarettes make you feel. Focus your thoughts on all the years you’ll miss with your grandchildren. Force yourself to think regularly about lying in the hospital with cancer.

Then one day, the pure hate of cigarettes will hit you. That’s the day and time to simply tell yourself that you’re not picking up another cigarette.

According to Dr. West’s research, an unplanned attempt to quit often succeeds even after adjusting for variables such as gender, age and socioeconomics. It all comes down to forcing a tipping point, Dr. West’s work suggests.

This is not to say that West discourages use of things such as nicotine patches or counseling. They can be beneficial, he says, but work best when incorporated by someone who just got tired of smoking.

“How do I stop smoking?” The next time you hear the question, the answer is simple: Just tell yourself how much you hate it, and stop!

People, who are into smoking, normally do not have the right information to the dangers they are posed to while smoking. In addition, they do not know the right approach they can take to stop the habit. Before you decide to take yet another puff, perhaps you should know the dangers that you are subjecting your body to.

Smoking is harmful for your body; this is perhaps not new to you. But, how dangerous is it, and what are the actual effects? The danger of smoking may depend on a number of factors. For instance, people who have been in the habit for a longer period of time are likely to be in the risk of extreme effects such as various types of cancers (lung, throat etc). If you do smoke frequently, you are also likely to experience full extent of the effects in your body. Effects of smoking on your body will also depend on your capability to chemical resistance.

Smoking can have serious effects on your body; sometimes it can even be deadly. According to the scientists’ findings, there are over 4,000 compounds that are present in cigarettes; of which most of them are harmful to the human body. The toxic compounds within cigarettes tend to alter the normal functionality of your body and most often lowers the immune system. Once the immune system has been lowered, you are then prone to contracting various diseases such as flu, cancer as well as stomach problems.

One of the common chemicals present in cigarettes is carbon monoxide. Once you take a puff of cigarette, the chemical mixes with the blood, denying it intake of sufficient oxygen. Since oxygen is the main generator of energy in the body, it is normal to feel feeble after smoking.

Smoking causes cancer

Cigarettes are made of tobacco which is known to have some cancer causing agents called carcinogens. Once inhaled and mixed with the blood, carcinogens damage some important genes that are responsible for the normal growth of body cells. The cells tend to grow too rapidly with carcinogens, making them weak and abnormal.

Effects on the lungs

Lungs are some of the most sensitive parts of the body. Smoking causes irritation to the walls of the lungs. Smoke also reduces the concentration of the mucus on the lining of the lung tubes, therefore, making it vulnerable to infections and even serious diseases such as cancer. Lung cancer is a common phenomenon to smokers worldwide.

Other effects include:

Insensitivity in the nervous system caused by smoke stimulation
Increase in the blood pressure and heart rate posing a risk of heart failure
Lose of appetite leading to poor health due to failure to eat enough food for the body
Lack of concentration and alertness
Low capability in problem solving
Dizziness, especially immediately after smoking

With all this you don’t want to risk your life. Take the right step to quit smoking.

Most doctors counsel their patients to stop smoking. And as they do, most receive a multitude of excuses as to why people say they can’t. Ultimately, though, those who did stop had some compelling reason as to why to quit smoking.

Want to know why to quit smoking? There are literally dozens of reasons. And not all of them are what you might expect. Let’s examine some of the best reasons that anyone could need for stopping the tobacco habit.

First, as you would expect, is your health. This is probably the most compelling answer to the question of why to quit smoking. Numerous studies have shown that cigarette smoking can cause heart disease, vascular diseases, and almost every form of cancer, strokes, emphysema, ulcers, bronchitis, and more. In fact, it’s estimated that more than 400,000 Americans die annually from a disease associated with cigarette smoking. Likewise, treatments of many pre-existing conditions are sometimes complicated by smoking.

Another good reason why to quit smoking is because you’ll get along with others better. Seriously! Today, smoking is considered unacceptable in most social settings. People consider it to be offensive, smelly, even disgusting. This was not always true, of course; many at one time considered it a sophisticated habit. Today, though, both non-smokers and the nation’s 50 million ex-smokers look at cigarette smoking with scorn.

Even if you’re not worried about what other people think, then consider the financial cost. The damage to your wallet is a good reason why to quit smoking. Maybe you were one of those who said, “If cigarettes ever get to $2,00 a pack, I’ll quit.” Or $3.00. Or $4.00. In fact, sometimes, it seems that it can never get too high for some people. Think of the cost: If you buy your cigarettes a pack at a time, you’ve spent $50 for one carton! Plus, the cigarettes damage your clothing, car, furniture, and more, all of which require money to fix.

And one last reasons, why to quit smoking: It’s just a more loving thing to do for your family. Unless you’re a monster, your loved ones probably want to have you around for many years to come. When you continue to do something that you know might kill you, you’re telling these loved ones that your cigarettes mean more to you than they do. And that’s not a message you want to send.

To be sure, smoking is an addiction, and the fact that you desire a cigarette is not entirely your fault. As with any other addictions, once an addict, always an addict. However, most people find that once they’ve been off of smoking for just a short period, they can stay off of them forever. There might still be the occasional longing for a smoke, but they are manageable. However, if you ever go back to smoking again, you’ll likely find it more difficult to stop a second time. And that’s one final, excellent reason why to quit smoking: the longer you smoke, it’ll be harder to stop

Smokers are created in many different ways. It could be to look cool to their peers, to elevate stress, or maybe they just wanted to try it. For whatever the reason, more and more people are walking around with smoky smells in their clothes, yellowing appearance, and a high risk for serious medical problems due to cigarettes, but for some, the cure is worse than the disease. But if you’re ready for the challenge, and ready to do something positive for your health, here is some essential stop smoking information you must have.

The first bit of stop smoking information you need to know is that quitting can take a toll on one’s body. Like any “cold-turkey” withdrawal, it can cause depression, respiratory pains and congestion, and increased anger. Other symptoms include headaches, anxiety, mood swings, and sweating. This makes for a rough time for the Quitter and those around them.

Some other stop smoking information you should understand is that mild depression is one of the major side effect. If the Quitter has a history of depression, the chemical withdrawal will highly increase the chances of an episode of depression. This symptom can last for weeks at a time, but will eventually lessen. A good way to jump this hump is to remember that it’s all part of the process, everything will get better, and it’s all sunshine after this rain cloud. The depression is one of the main reason people relapse and continue to smoke, so it’s good to keep in mind that if a Quitter can get past this part without lighting up, then the road won’t be so bumpy.

Finally, you should expect this stop smoking information: Once the steady intake of tobacco, nicotine, and other harmful chemicals is cut off, the body starts detoxifying itself. This can cause the headaches, respiratory pains, and congestion. Now that the lungs are not exposed to the toxins, they try to repair themselves by clearing out all the mucus and junk that has built up due to smoking which causes the pains and congestion. Over the counter medicines will help dry up the congestion. It varies how long the congestion will last, but Quitters can take solace in knowing that it’s cheaper to buy a couple months supply of decongestant than a lifetime of cigarettes.

There are many reasons a Quitter might feel a strong sense of anger or irritability. One might be a sense of loss as if they lost a friend, another is a feeling of “why me?”, but mostly it is the reaction of the brain when it is readjusting to the absence of certain chemicals. Irritability is an inevitable part of trying to quit smoking and can be hard to manage the first week. Ways to defuse an irrational situation are to take a “time out” from it, exercise, or take a bath. When cigarettes are the easiest way to combat stress it’s difficult not to fall back into the same smoking patterns.

Hopefully this stop smoking information has not scared you away from your ambition. Instead, use it to arm yourself for the fight ahead. It’s a fight for your life.

Quitting smoking is one of the hardest things a person can do. In fact, according to the Department of Health and Human Services, more than 3 million people try to kick the habit every year. And it can be frustrating to know that most of those people won’t succeed the first time they try. Or even the second. But smoking is the number one cause of preventable disease and death in the country, so it is worth it to keep trying to quit until it finally sticks. The quitting smoking benefits far outweigh the difficulties you’ll encounter.

The fault for how addictive smoking is lies mainly with the highly addictive nicotine found in cigarettes. And over the course of time — from that first puff of that first cigarette to every single one after that — smokers not only get more addicted physically, but emotionally as well.

But no matter how difficult it is to throw that pack away, there is no denying the quitting smoking benefits you’ll receive. Of course, you’ll need to get past the withdrawal symptoms first, which can last anywhere from a few days to several weeks — or longer.

Aside from the uncontrollable cravings and difficulty concentrating on anything other than lighting up, physical symptoms like insomnia, headaches, sore throat, weight gain, constipation and uncomfortable gas can drive people right back to their old habits.
But if you are able to stop smoking for good, consider all of the good you are doing for yourself. And you don’t have long to wait before the quitting smoking benefits kick in.

In 1990, the Surgeon General released a report about the many quitting smoking benefits—some of which start within 20 minutes of putting out your last cigarette. For instance, almost immediately, your heart rate, circulation and blood pressure return to normal. The next day, the carbon monoxide level in your blood drops to normal. Within a few weeks, lung capacity improves and soon, your sense of taste and smell improves and breathing becomes easier than before. In under a year, coughing and shortness of breath, decrease and the risk of lung infection greatly decreases.

Keep it up, and every year you stay smoke-free, your risk of cancer decreases and you can add back the 10-15 years of life lost all for the sake of a cigarette. Quitting smoking benefits are literally life-changing and life-saving!

Still need more quitting smoking benefits? They state that quitting lowers the risk of developing lung or other cancers, having a stroke or heart attack or developing a chronic lung disease. Also, women who quit before getting pregnant or even give it up during the first trimester of pregnancy reduce their risk of having a low birth-weight baby.

All of this pertains to the health benefits of stopping, but the quitting smoking benefits also go into the area of becoming more socially acceptable and looking and smelling better.

So stop today. For your sake and the sake of those you love. And if you love someone else who smokes, ask them to stop with you. Maybe you can grow old together.

Most people who have smoked for any length of time reach the point when they’d like to stop. But one question haunts them: How can I stop smoking? After all, it’s common knowledge that nicotine is addicting, and not easily to surrender. If you’re one of those wondering, “How can I stop smoking?” then this guide is for you.

First, remember that as you go through the quitting process, don’t let yourself get discouraged. The fact that it’s hard to stop is not a reflection of your personality or will power. Nicotine is extremely addictive; it is both a depressant and stimulant. This means nicotine raises your heart rate and causes you to feel more alert (something like caffeine). But then afterward, it brings on depression and fatigue. This fatigue and depression cause you to crave another cigarette, in order to get another pickup. In fact, some experts say that nicotine is as addictive as heroin or cocaine. So keep motivated and never get down on yourself.

Second, put a support structure in place. It’s a known fact that those who have family and friends who help them quit are more likely to stop the habit permanently. If your family doesn’t know you smoke, then create a support structure from your friends. You might also consider confiding in a pastor, counselor, mentor or other adult whom you trust. And if you have an especially difficult time finding somebody to help you, then join a formal support group. This could be either a group that meets in person or online.

One bit of advice that doctors give to almost anyone who asks, “How can I stop smoking?” is to throw away all cigarettes and lighters or matches. It’s much harder to stop this habit if you have the cigarettes around, still tempting you. While you’re at it, get rid of the ashtrays, too.

Here’s something that doesn’t occur to many people who wonder, How can I stop smoking: Wash your clothes. The reason is to get rid of the cigarette smell on them. Clean your car, too, if you smoke in it. The smell of cigarettes often triggers a desire for one.

And finally, be aware of your triggers. What situations cause you to crave a smoke? For some people, it might be driving, walking, when they first wake up, right after they eat, right after sex. Simply becoming aware of these triggers allows you to gather up as much willpower as possible at those moments, so you have a better chance of fighting off the urge. When possible, avoid those situations. When not possible (For instance, you’re not likely to swear off eating), change the context. If you eat in the living room, and smoke right after, sometimes just changing your habit so you eat in the dining room will help you resist the temptation to smoke.

And finally, try to stay away from places where a lot of smoking goes on. This includes bars, restaurants with smoking sections, etc. Again, this is because the smell of cigarettes, as well as just seeing someone enjoying one, might cause you to desire one.

Smoking is a major barrier to your health. The health benefits begin just immediately you stop smoking. Real smokers will argue that there are no benefits that are achieved when one stops smoking. Partly they could be right because they have never been highlighted on the benefits achieved once you stop smoking.

There are many benefits achieved once you stop smoking. They are the reasons to why you should stop smoking. Cigarette smoking completely makes your body malfunction. The lethal gases like co2 (carbon dioxide) inhaled are a great threat to your health. Once it is within your body, it locks the red blood cells and makes it hard to carry the oxygen. If you stop smoking, your body will be capable of repairing your blood system and make it turn to normal.

Cigarettes can damage your nerves completely. When you smoke you take in lethal compounds that affect your nerves. It will take you very few days to recover from the problem, only if you stop smoking. Your senses will also be improved and sharpened.

Smoking greatly affects your blood performance. Smokers are more prone to high blood pressure. This is a disease that is hard to treat. High blood pressure is a common disease among the middle age people. It makes your heart work extra harder and this can easily result into an enlarged heart. Very few know the side effects of smoking. Professionals will advice you on the type of food to eat and the amount of exercise you should do. None will ever tell you how healthy behavior can help you stop smoking.

There has been wide spread of gospel that smoking causes lung cancer. Very true, but are you aware that smoking can cause more other serious damages than cancer? You need not to assume, smoking can cause more serious injuries to your body than you though of.

Statistics shows that smoking kills up to 114,000 people in UK every year. Cigarette related cancer results into 1/3 of these deaths. Cigarette contains very risky chemical compounds and other more toxic elements. Once a cigarette is inhaled, it burns at 60 degrees in the core and 700 degrees at the tip. It is this heat that breaks down the tobacco components to produce toxic substances.

When you smoke, you directly take in some compounds that work against your body. Tar is the substance that causes cancer. Nicotine is also inhaled in the process. It increases the cholesterol contents in the body and makes the body more prone to cancer attack. Carbon monoxide is also consumed in the process. It drastically reduces oxygen content in the body and you know the out come of it.

You barely have all the reasons to why you should stop smoking. You cannot withstand the damages caused by smoking. Get to know that the level of damage done to your body through smoking is influenced by certain factors. How often do you smoke? The number of cigarettes taken directly influences the level of body destruction. The mode of preparation that the cigarette went through is also a major factor.

Smokers don’t live longer. Research shows that smoking reduces your life expectancy to seven years or even more than that. You will never live a healthy life when you smoke. You will also be risking your self to other problems like high blood pressure that is very common among the smokers.

No one will ever wish to be infertile. Smokers increase infertility rate. If you have other medical problems like Asthma never dare smoke. It will worsen and increase the inflammation of the airways.

Smoking affects your ED (erectile dysfunction). Men between the ages of 30s to 40s are most affected by this problem. Smoking tampers with your blood vessel that is why erection can’t be achieved. Your penis needs constant supply of blood in order to achieve sufficient erection.

Many people are reported dead as a result of cardiovascular diseases. It is caused by excessive smoking. What happens is that your arteries harden over years as a result of cholesterol and fat deposition. The arteries are then left narrow and blocked. These results into blood clotting also called atherosclerosis.

However it is never too late for any smoker to stop smoking. You can work on your health status and achieve better health for better future. This is exactly why you need to stop smoking

Everyone knows what smoking can do to their health and if you are already an addict, trying to stop, will be one of the hardest things you ever did. Your health is at risk here, and smoking affects your blood pressure, oxygen and carbon monoxide levels and increases the chances of you having heart attacks. Stopping the habit will reverse all these, and no matter how long you have been smoking, you can take the initiative right now and stop smoking.

No one will tell you that it is easy to stop smoking, but you have to garner your will-power to do it. You are going to have to fight the urge to smoke again, with all your might and it is not going to be easy. Your reasons for stopping will depend on you but once you decide that you want to stop, the rest is easy.

If you started smoking probably because of a psychological problem, this will not fade away when you stop smoking, and chances are it did not stop either when you started. It will be best, if you found the solution to the underlying problem first, so that you make the rest of the process easier. You can find a psychologist to talk to and help you overcome it.

Although stopping is not easy, there are easy ways to stop smoking and you can do this on your own. The first thing is to realize that since you are an addict, you will be tempted to smoke if you keep the cigarettes in view hence throw away whatever you have left and keep from friends or relatives who are smoking because you might find your self asking for one.

Every time you feel the craving to smoke, make yourself do something to keep your mind off the idea. Have a ready plan of what you will be doing anytime the urge arises so that you will always be ready when it comes.

Get yourself together with other people who are trying to stop smoking for some motivation. Encourage and support each other and although each of you will have a different reason for stopping, remind each other the benefits of stopping the habit so that you know that you want to achieve something from what you are doing.

Remember that you might not be able to quit just at once, which means you may have to start by reducing the number of cigarettes you take per day and the frequency before you can accomplish your goal. It’s all in the mind and you are going to train yourself on how to reduce what you buy. Keep yourself busy with other things you enjoy so that you won’t have to remember smoking all the time.

What is easy for me might not be easy for you, but whatever you do, stop smoking and this is for your own good. No matter the time it takes, be patient with yourself and as long you are willing, the habit will eventually stop.
